Mexico is a popular destination for tourists of all kinds – those wanting to soak up the sun can do so on any number of beautiful beaches, those in pursuit of more cultural and historical aspects can drown themselves in endless Mayan temples, the people wanting to party their time away are well accommodated throughout and those who want to do their bit for the world will find a thriving eco-tourism scene in the country. Mexico is still a developing nation, but it is industrial and growing fast, and visits to the country can prove incredibly rewarding, as well as keeping the bank balance intact. Mexico City is the bustling epicentre of the country, full to the brim with people, cars and masses of pollution, as well as something of a crime problem. Nevertheless, those that scratch the surface will find a captivating and thrilling experience through the entire city – a metropolis third in size only to New York City and Tokyo. Those wishing to pursue the architectural delights in the city will be spoilt for choice, with many buildings in the Art Deco, Neo Classical and Art Nouveau styles dominating surroundings, for example the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Other sites worth visiting include the Aztec Templo Mayor, the Plaza de la Constitucion and the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, amongst many, many, many other attractions both big and small. A plethora of bars, theatres, restaurants and nightspots cover the city as well, and Mexican nightlife is just as interesting as the daylife. Mexico City is also in a prime location from which to start any excursions, with Xochimilco offering a beautiful and popular Aztec haunt. Elsewhere in the country are places like Teotihuacn and Tula, former capitals of the Native Indian empires and home to some stunning ancient relics and ruins of the past civilisations. Taxco, home of Monte Taxco, is a beautiful city and is classed as a national treasure. The resort town of Acapulco is ever popular with visitors, and the west coast is home to Baja California – a haven for eco-tourists and water sports enthusiasts alike, home to some stunning marine life. Other attractions include the town of Colima, the beaches of Cabo San Lucas, as well as Monterrey and it’s fierce industrial image, with hidden cultural remnants not far behind. Mexico is a country full to bursting with things to do, places to go and people to meet and no one visit is enough to take everything this wonderful country has to offer in. There are areas in the country that are somewhat overdeveloped when it comes to tourism – resort towns and regions spring up on many of the coastline towns, but these are still ideal for those wanting the sun and sand approach to holidays. Every other type of visitor is catered for also, from the Peso-grasping backpackers wanting cheap accommodation and some free sights to the elite, escaping to their private enclosures, as well as everything in between. The infrastructure for tourism is well-developed and the country relies on it a fair amount economically – most likely meaning that as the country gets richer, there will be even more investment into the tourist industry.
